If during a rainfall, you can hear the water slapping the ground, pouring over the sides of the gutter, there may be a blockage or the gutter itself may not be aligned evenly. If you notice paint peeling or corroded wood, the gutter is most likely clogged and is causing the water to overflow and run down the back of gutter along the exterior walls of the house. If you notice mold or if you see puddles of water forming around the outside of your house it's a sure sign that there are drainage problems.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO CLEAN MY GUTTERS?
A regular gutter cleaning schedule is
vital for your gutter system to maintain optimum performance. Once in the spring and once in the fall is typically
enough for the average home without a multitude of trees in the area. However, your home is surrounded by trees, you may need to clean them even more often!
HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN MY RAIN GUTTERS NEED TO BE CLEANED?
You may notice some areas of your gutter begin to overflow when it rains, or your downspouts may not have any water drain out of them. This means you have clogged gutters. You may also begin to see the debris building up over the top of your gutter, in which case, you have badly clogged gutters which need to be taken care of immediately. Ideally, you should clean your gutters on a regular schedule so you won't have to guess when they need taken care of. Additionally, it is important to note that gutter cleaning is necessary even if you do not have trees. Shingle grit can collect over time, pests may make nests in your gutters, and organic debris like pollen and dirt may collect up there, as well.
HOW DO I TACKLE CLEANING RAIN GUTTERS MYSELF?
Here at Gutterbrothers, we highly discourage homeowners from cleaning rain gutters themselves. There are a few reasons why. First and foremost is the issue of safety. In order to clean your gutters, you must climb a ladder, which can lead to serious injuries. Also keep in mind that you can never be certain what you'll find lurking up in your gutter system - anything from bees' nests to opossums, and more can make a home up there. This also poses a significant safety risk.
The other drawback of DIY gutter cleaning is due to a lack of training and proper tools. A professional gutter cleaner spends every day cleaning rain gutters. In addition to safely and properly cleaning your gutters, they’ll also be able to identify any other issues you may not have been aware of, such as rotting fascia board, or leaking gutters.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CLEAN GUTTERS?
This largely depends on the size of your home, as well as the number of levels it has. If you opt for DIY gutter cleaning, it can take several hours to finish cleaning your gutters. Unfortunately, owners of homes with two or more stories often neglect hard-to-reach gutters. Why? Standard ladders are often too short to reach certain levels of the home, and oftentimes landscaping prevents easy access. Neglecting or foregoing gutter cleaning altogether is a dangerous game to play, however it can result in some costly damages to your roof and foundation.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DECIDE NOT TO CLEAN MY CLOGGED GUTTERS?
Ignoring clogged gutters can have serious consequences. When water overshoots your gutters due to debris buildup, the water will fall to the base of your home. This can cause a whole host of problems like landscape erosion, flooding, foundation issues, and mold growth. On a much less serious note, clogged gutters are also unsightly, and detract from your home's curb appeal.
WHAT ARE SOME REASONS TO REPLACE MY GUTTERS?
Clogged or leaky gutters are one of the biggest causes of basement leaks, mold and other foundation problems. Also, standing water in gutters is one of the common places mosquitoes breed.
Old worn-out gutters are unappealing and reduce the value of your property.
Your old gutters may have become bent or dented or may be pulling away from your home in a manner that they cannot be reattached or reworked.
Your old seamed gutters may have begun to pull apart or have leaks and you would like to replace them.
You want to change the color of your gutters.
The drainage of your current guttering is not sufficient so you want to install a larger size gutter and downspout system. Most homes and commercial properties have 5 inch gutters with 2x3 downspouts, but we can install 6 inch gutters with 3x4 downspouts when necessary.
